Digital & Pastel Enthusiast

Statement

I fell in love with the idea of being an artist when I saw a behind the scenes clip from the Lion King animation department as a child. They brought in real lions for the artists to study, and when I saw how they not only got to interact with these magnificent creatures as part of their job but also how they transformed them into something surreal, I was hooked. I've paused movies to study the background art, I am always thinking about how I would draw something and stopping to take reference photos for places that would make a good painting. I am especially hooked on pastels, but also appreciate digital for its easy access and quick turn around time. I love commissions of animals but always strive to care more about a "feeling" being evoked rather than 100% realism. I always want my art to tell a story to the viewer.

Biography

For as long as she can remember, Tricia has been fascinated with art. It was an early life goal for her to become an art teacher, but she realized she wasn’t compatible with the traditional education system and found herself instead in a trade school for cosmetology. From there she became a cosmetology instructor and put art aside for several years. It wasn’t until the passing of her dog in 2019 that she decided to take up art again through a commemorative pet portrait. After the success of that portrait the artistic spark was reignited and the paint brushes called her name once more. Over the last few years she’s studied digital, watercolor & pastel media and chooses an impressionistic approach to her paintings. Her main subject is animals but no subject matter is off limits, painting everything from landscape to plein air to still life, always striving to develop her style further and show the world not as it is, but as it feels.
